Mayoral elections of SMC : Junaid Matoo declared Mayor, Sheikh Imran Dy Mayor | KNO

Srinagar, November 06 (KNO) : Former National Conference (NC) spokesperson and Peoples Conference (PC) candidate, Junaid Azim Matoo was Tuesday declared Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).The independent candidate, Sheikh Imran secured Deputy Mayoral post by winning the contest by one vote. Officials told KNO that 40 votes were polled in favour Matoo while as only 26 were polled in favour of Congress rival, Ghulam Rasool Hajam. “Four votes during the elections were found invalid,” officials said. Sheikh Imran, an independent councillor who was backed by state Congress was elected Deputy Mayor. Officials said that Imran was declared Dy Mayor who has won the Dy Mayor elections by one vote. Sheikh Imran has bagged 35 votes while as his rival has bagged 34, officials said, adding that the one vote was rejected during the elections for Dy Mayor.(KNO)
